Getting to Zimbabwe for Your Safari

Most hunters reach Zimbabwe through Johannesburg and land at Victoria Falls, Harare or Bulawayo. Here is how to plan your flights, travel with rifles and get from the airport to camp.

Main Airports

Victoria Falls (VFA)

The closest airport to Hwange, the Matetsi area, Victoria Falls itself and Chobe in Botswana. The natural hub for cross-border trips.

Harare (HRE)

Zimbabwe's capital and main international airport, and the usual gateway for the Zambezi Valley and Mana Pools.

Bulawayo (BUQ)

Zimbabwe's second city, convenient for areas in the south and west of the country.

Flying via Johannesburg

Johannesburg is Southern Africa's main hub, with connections to Victoria Falls, Harare and Bulawayo. Book your whole journey on one ticket where you can, so your bags are checked through, and allow extra connection time if you travel with a rifle.

Flying with Rifles to Zimbabwe

Some European airlines will not carry firearms to Zimbabwe, so hunters from Europe and the UK often book a separate ticket to Johannesburg. Always confirm the airline's firearm policy before you buy your ticket.
