Leopard Hunting in Zimbabwe

Leopard is the hunt of waiting. Days are spent hanging and checking baits; evenings are spent motionless in a hide, listening for the cat. When a big male finally comes to the bait, you have seconds and one shot.

How a Leopard Hunt Works

Baiting

Baits are hung in trees along riverbeds and drainage lines where tracks show a leopard moving. Each bait is checked every morning for feeding.

The Hide

Once a male is feeding, we build a hide facing the bait and sit in it through the late afternoon and into dusk, silent and still.

Judging and the Shot

Your PH confirms a mature male before you shoot. The shot is close, from a rest, often in fading light, so practise with your rifle before you travel.

Rifles

Best Calibre for Leopard

Accuracy matters more than power: an accurate, scoped rifle you know well, with a scope that gathers light at dusk.

Questions

Leopard Hunting FAQ

Why is a leopard hunt 10 days?

A leopard has to find and feed on a bait before you can sit for it, and that can take several days. Ten days gives the baits time to work.

Can I import a leopard trophy?

Leopard needs CITES and import permits, and the rules change. Check your own country's current rules before you book. See our trophy export guide.

What happens on the days we're not in the hide?

Mornings are for checking baits, and there is often time to hunt plains game or buffalo alongside the leopard hunt.
