On the tracks
We find fresh tracks at water at dawn and follow them with trackers until we catch up with the herd or bachelor group.
Your PH looks for a hard, fully closed boss, deep curl and age. An old bull past breeding is the goal.
Aim on the centre line of the front leg, a third of the way up the body. Be ready for a follow-up shot.
Rifles
.375 H&H minimum by law; .416 and .458 are popular. Use premium soft points for the first shot and solids for follow-ups.

Buffalo are tracked on foot, so expect to walk [10 to 20 km] a day in the heat, often through thick bush. Train in your hunting boots before you travel.
