Why Zimbabwe
01
Big, unfenced hunting areas where animals move freely between parks, safari areas and communal land. Tracking is done on foot, the way African hunting began.
02
Zimbabwe's professional hunter exam is among the toughest on the continent. Every hunt is led by a licensed PH.
03
Zimbabwe is known for some of Africa's best sable and kudu, and for hard-bossed old buffalo bulls tracked through jesse bush.
04
Good value compared to [Tanzania], and Victoria Falls is next door for a day before or after the hunt.
Where to hunt
North · along the Zambezi River
Below the Kariba escarpment the Zambezi Valley opens into hot, wild country cut by sand rivers and thick jesse bush. This is classic dangerous game ground: big buffalo herds and old bachelor bulls, elephant along the river and the escarpment, leopard in the riverine thickets, and hippo and crocodile in the Zambezi itself. Hunting here is physical. Days start at first light on fresh tracks, and stalks in the jesse are close and demanding.

West · near Victoria Falls
Between Hwange National Park and Victoria Falls lie open woodland, vleis and teak forest on Kalahari sand. Game moves freely in and out of the park, which makes the area a strong choice for buffalo, sable and leopard, with kudu and other plains game alongside. Being close to Victoria Falls airport also makes this the easiest region to reach and to combine with Chobe or the Falls.

Southeast · private conservancies
In the southeastern lowveld, former cattle ranches have been turned into large private wildlife conservancies. They hold healthy populations of plains game and dangerous game, with good camps and well-managed quotas. Ask us which areas are fenced and which are free-range, so you can choose the hunt that suits you.

Community land · CAMPFIRE
Under Zimbabwe's CAMPFIRE programme, rural communities living alongside wildlife receive a share of the revenue from hunting on their land. Hunting in a CAMPFIRE area directly funds local projects such as schools, clinics and water points, and gives communities a reason to protect wildlife rather than see it as a threat.
